Australian authorities say they have issued an arrest warrant for a suspect who poured hot liquid on a 9-month-old baby last month, sparking a national and international manhunt.
The incident took place around noon on August 27 in Hanlon Park in Queensland, in the country’s northeast, a Monday statement from the Queensland Police Service.
The suspect, described by police as a 33-year-old foreign national, “has now left the region and Queensland Police are working with national and international partner agencies to progress this investigation,” police said.
The suspect was identified by the Morningside Child Protection Investigation Unit, police said.
On the day of the alleged crime, a group of people were approached by an unknown man, who poured hot liquid on the boy and then ran away.
The baby was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, the police saidThe child has since been discharged from hospital.
According to police, surveillance footage shows a man running away shortly after the attack.
The man was last seen wearing a black hat, glasses, shirt and shorts. He is of “proportionate build” and has tanned skin, the police said.
