ST. LOUIS – People in the St. Louis area gathered Monday evening to pay tribute to the lives affected by the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attacks on Israel.

More than 1,000 people were killed in the attacks and more than 200 hostages were taken. More than a hundred of those hostages have still not returned.

Here at home, hundreds of people gathered at the Jewish Community Center to pray, mourn and reflect on what has been a difficult year. But for many, the message remained the same: they want the hostages to return home, and they want the war to end.

One rabbi told FOX 2 that Jewish tradition is to mourn a tragedy for a year, and slowly move toward healing. That made Monday night’s event even more important for the community in attendance.

The event was organized by the Jewish Federation of St. Louis.
