The news

Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets into Israel on Sunday, apparently in retaliation for hundreds of Israeli attacks on Beirut and elsewhere in the past week.

The Iran-backed militant group and largest political force in Lebanon has “returned stronger, and the front line will see this,” Hezbollah vice chairman Naim Kassem said after Israel attacked some 100,000 people. 400 militant locations in the past 24 hours. An Israeli strike in Beirut on Friday also killed 45 people, including a senior Hezbollah leader. The attacks came after Hezbollah beepers and walk-talkies exploded last week, killing at least 39 people and wounding some 3,500 others — the group has blamed Israel for the attack.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday he would take all necessary measures to secure Israel’s northern border and allow displaced Israelis to return to their homes.

“No country can accept the reckless launching of rockets into its cities,” Netanyahu said. “We cannot accept it either,” he said.

Israel gives a “implicit ultimatum“, wrote The Wall Street Journal: “Make a deal to withdraw from Israel’s northern border, or go to war.”
