The pro-Iranian militia Hezbollah announced Sunday morning that it had taken retaliatory measures against Israel over the killing of one of its commanders in Beirut.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has declared a 48-hour state of emergency across Israel in response to the growing security threat.

He said the emergency would last for the next 48 hours, starting at 6 a.m. (0300 GMT).

Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that it had discovered that Hezbollah would “soon fire rockets and possibly also missiles and UAVs” into Israeli territory.

“In a self-defense action to eliminate these threats, the Israeli military is carrying out strikes on terrorist targets in Lebanon from which Hezbollah planned to carry out attacks against Israeli civilians,” army spokesman Daniel Hagari said.

“We warn civilians in areas where Hezbollah is active to immediately move out of the danger zone for their own safety,” he added.

Israel would not tolerate Hezbollah attacks on Israeli civilians, Hagari warned.

Security circles in Lebanon confirmed the Israeli attacks.
