Large parts of Germany should brace for further rain and thunderstorms, according to a weather forecast released by the German Weather Service (DWD) on Saturday morning.
According to the meteorologist, a few thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are likely in the morning on the eastern edge of the Alps and in the Upper Palatinate region in the southern state of Bavaria. Other regions may be affected later.
In the western state of Hesse, showers may develop in the afternoon, while in northwestern Lower Saxony, thunderstorms may develop from the west from noon.
Similar weather conditions were forecast for the eastern parts of the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, which lie in the west of the country on the borders with the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
The storms have already caused a lot of damage in recent days.
Around 500 interventions were carried out by the fire brigade and the Technical Assistance Organisation (THW) after a severe thunderstorm and heavy rainfall in Saarland, which borders France, the state’s Interior Ministry reported.
The ministry said many basements were flooded and municipal infrastructure in some areas was severely damaged, with landslides and burst sewers.
