German police shut down a reading by far-right author Martin Sellner in Neulingen in the western state of Baden-Württemberg on Saturday evening and imposed a restraining order on him to prevent criminal offenses, a statement said.
Sellner wrote on his Telegram channel that police had “caught” him reading his book and imposed a citywide ban on him.
Police said that since the event was announced, there has been “continuous and close contact with the relevant authorities and the cities and districts” in their area of responsibility.
In consultation with the municipality of Neulingen, northwest of Stuttgart, a temporary residence ban was imposed immediately after the start of the private event in the evening.
Sellner then left the scene and complied with the order, police said in the statement. Some other participants remained seated.
Sellner, who led the far-right identitarian movement in Austria, toured Germany to read from his book ‘Remigration’.
Far-right extremists use the term ‘remigration’ to refer to the departure of large numbers of people of foreign origin from Germany, including by force.
