German auto giant Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than half a million cars in China due to a technical defect.

China’s market authority said on Friday that the company has issued a recall that will take effect from November 27.

The affected cars have a problem with the resistance of the wheel speed sensors to moisture.

Prolonged use in hot and humid conditions may cause malfunctions and affect the vehicle’s electronic stability control and anti-lock braking system (ABS).

A Mercedes spokesman confirmed the recall. According to the Chinese authority, the affected vehicles are almost 250,000 imported cars of the A-Class, B-Class, CLA and GLA models that were produced between August 30, 2011 and April 3, 2019.

Approximately 280,000 GLA models produced in China between March 13, 2014 and October 12, 2019 were also affected.

The recall comes just a day after Mercedes-Benz cut its 2024 profit forecast, citing weak business in China.
