German airport association ADV says it plans to schedule talks with climate action group Last Generation, after activists from the group attacked several German airports in a series of controversial protests in recent weeks.

“A meeting will soon take place between representatives of Last Generation and the management of the airport association ADV,” the group said on Tuesday.

According to the association, the ADV wanted to use the talks to make it clear that airports are not the right place for protests, as the association is pursuing an ambitious climate neutrality agenda.

ADV offered Last Generation two weeks ago to hold talks.

The association said it wants to inform climate activists about the latest climate policies and measures taken by airports, and discuss with them the impact of runway blockades on airport safety.

The climate activists responded on Monday by accepting the offer for dialogue, on condition that the topic of the talks be specified.

Flights were suspended at two airports after Last Generation launched protests at several German airports on Thursday, breaking through fences and gluing planes to the apron.

The actions targeted the airports of Berlin-Brandenburg, Stuttgart, Nuremberg and Cologne-Bonn.

Air traffic to Cologne-Bonn and Nuremberg was briefly interrupted.
