According to Israeli reports on Tuesday, the suspected attacker was killed after a knife attack was carried out on Israeli security forces during an operation in the West Bank.

The 19-year-old Palestinian was a resident of the Gaza Strip, Israeli police said. It was initially unclear why he was in the West Bank.

The man initially ran toward Israeli troops during a nighttime raid near Ramallah, according to reports, before stabbing an Israeli officer.

The officer was wounded and taken to hospital, Israeli authorities said. The Palestinian man was shot dead. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that the Border Police officer was lightly wounded.

The Israeli Border Police, along with the army and the Shin Bet domestic intelligence agency, reportedly carried out an anti-terrorism raid overnight. No further details about the operation were initially released.

Separately, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported clashes during a raid near Ramallah on Tuesday morning. A 20-year-old man was killed by shots fired by Israeli forces.

Elsewhere in the West Bank, the Magen David Adom ambulance service reported that three Israelis were injured by broken glass in a shooting at their car on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place on a road connecting two Israeli settlements in the northwestern Palestinian territory, which is also home to several Palestinian villages.

The situation in the West Bank has deteriorated dramatically since the start of the war in Gaza, which broke out in response to the Hamas massacre in southern Israel on October 7.

Since then, more than 550 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military operations, confrontations or as a result of their own attacks in the West Bank, health officials said.

Violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians has also increased during this period.
