Health authorities in the Gaza Strip reported more deaths, while the Israeli military said on Wednesday it was continuing operations in the center and south of the coastal strip.

The Hamas-controlled health authority reported that nine people have died in a town in the central Gaza Strip.

Officials at al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City reported that nine more people were killed in an Israeli attack on the entrance to a school run by UNRWA, the UN relief agency for Palestinian refugees.

The Israeli military has previously accused Hamas of abusing UN facilities and has attacked UNRWA schools in the past. It has also accused UNRWA of harboring Hamas militants.

At least eight schools in the Gaza Strip have been hit in the past 10 days, including six schools run by UNRWA, according to UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini.

Earlier, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that five people had been killed in Israeli strikes on Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip and in Nuseirat, a refugee camp in the center.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was continuing operations in the areas in question. Individuals who fired rockets at IDF forces in Rafah were targeted, the IDF said.

It added that the Israeli air force on Tuesday struck targets in the city from which rockets had been fired into Israel. Terrorists had also been killed in the center of the Gaza Strip, the report said.

IDF forces killed a Hamas sniper and another member of the Palestinian militant organization in the northern region on Tuesday, the report said. More than 25 targets were hit from the air in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, the report said.

The Hamas-controlled health authority reported that at least 81 Palestinians were killed in the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours.

According to the authority, at least 38,794 people have been killed and another 89,364 wounded since the start of the current war. The figures do not distinguish between civilians and combatants and cannot be independently verified.

Israel launched its ongoing military offensive in the Gaza Strip after Hamas launched unprecedented attacks on Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people and brutally massacred civilians.
