French investigators have arrested two casino fraudsters in the Parisian suburb of Enghien-les-Bains, who are said to have used a sophisticated technique to fraudulently win tens of thousands of euros per night.
To gather evidence on the two men, detectives first installed an extensive surveillance system at the casino, France Info reported Friday, citing police.
They were able to determine that one of the perpetrators at the poker table was using a tiny earpiece that was so small that it had to be removed with a magnet.
The fraudster received instructions via the earpiece from an accomplice who was in a car outside the casino. The accomplice in turn used images from a mobile phone camera of the perpetrator at the poker table.
The special camera was installed on the side of the mobile phone and filmed the dealer as he dealt the cards, with a wide angle.
During a search of the duo’s car and hotel room, police discovered numerous casino entry tickets across Europe. An investigator told the broadcaster that the case “should prompt casinos to take action to ensure that this type of fraud can no longer take place.”
