DENPASAR, Indonesia (AP) — Two Australians and three Indonesians survived the crash of a tourist helicopter in Bali after becoming entangled in kite string, officials said Friday.
The Bell 505 Jet Ranger X helicopter, owned by PT. Whitesky Aviation, crashed in the village of Pecatu in the southern coastal area of Bali, according to a statement from Indonesia’s Ministry of Transport.
Photos released by Indonesia’s search and rescue agency show the helicopter with five people on board, including crew and passengers, crashing into a limestone cliff.
“All victims were safely evacuated,” a written statement from the agency in Bali said Friday, adding that three of them were taken to hospital for further treatment.
Indonesia, a sprawling archipelago of about 270 million people, has been plagued by traffic accidents in recent years, including plane crashes and sinking ferries.
According to authorities, a team will be sent to the crash site for further investigation.
