BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — The 15th annual Feast of joy transformed downtown Bloomington into a mini-India.

Many wore colorful Indian clothing, had henna tattoos and dotted face paintings. Indian cuisine included plant foods.

A parade with many people walked through the street and sang Hare Krishna. You could also dance, do yoga or even meditate at the festival.

Also known as the Festival of the Chariots, the festival traces its origins back 3,000 years to a city in India that claims to have the longest-running street festival, according to the group’s website.

The website states:

“This re-enactment of the famous Ratha Yatra parade, also known as the Festival of Chariots, is rooted in the ancient Indian bhakti or devotional tradition. It has been celebrated annually for over 3,000 years in the holy town of Jagannatha Puri in Orissa, India, making it the longest-running street festival in the world.”
