WARSAW, Poland (AP) — A miner who went missing after an earthquake at Poland’s Rydultowy coal mine has been found alive, more than two days after the accident that killed one worker and injured 17 others, local officials said Saturday.

The office of the provincial governor of the Silesian coal mining region in southern Poland said the miner was conscious and was being brought to the surface. Details of his condition were not immediately available. A trauma helicopter was waiting at the gate of the coal mine.

There were 78 miners in the area when a magnitude 3.1 quake struck about 1,200 meters (4,000 feet) below the Earth’s surface on Thursday afternoon.

The earthquake threw rocks into the corridor at one point where the miner was found on Saturday.
