To that end, China, together with Brazil and other countries in the South, has established a Group of Friends for Peace, he said in his speech to the UN General Assembly.

“Its purpose is to uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charterbuilding consensus for a political solution to the crisis and contributing to the prospect of peace,” the minister said.

He noted that the issue of Palestine is the “greatest wound” to the human conscience.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza is causing more casualties every day, he said, adding that fighting has restarted in Lebanon.

‘But power cannot replace justice. Palestine’s long-held aspiration to establish an independent state must no longer be shunned, and the historical injustices suffered by the Palestinian people must no longer be ignored.”

The Foreign Minister also noted China’s partnerships with African countries and some least developed countries (LDCs), while emphasizing its opposition to unilateral coercive measures, such as sanctions and blockades, and disruption of supply chains.

“Sanctions and pressure will not produce monopolistic benefits. Suppressing and controlling others will not solve the problems at home. The right of people of all countries to pursue a better life should not be taken away,” he said, calling on the United States to fully lift the blockade, sanctions and terrorism-related designation against Cuba.

Mr. Wang also emphasized China’s commitment to a “path of green, low-carbon and sustainable development.”

“We will move from CO2 peak to carbon neutrality in the shortest possible time in world history, thus contributing to China’s efforts to achieve harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature at the global level,” he said.

He also stressed that the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities must be maintained Paris Agreement in the field of climate change must be seriously implemented.

Developed countries should also help developing countries build their capacity to deal with climate change, he added.

Foreign Minister Wang further emphasized China’s support for the reform and modernization of the UN, and for making international financial systems fit for the times. China would also continue to fulfill its obligations by providing financial support and qualified personnel.

He urged the Organization to “respond to the legitimate calls” of developing countries and increase the representation and voice of those in the Global South.

Concluding his speech, Mr. Wang said that next year will mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the founding of the United Nations.

“China stands ready to work with all countries to renew the founding purposes and mission of the UN, reaffirm our steadfast commitment to the UN Charter, advocate and practice true multilateralism, build a community with a shared future for humanity, and together a better world.”
