Brisbane, in Australia’s tropical north, is often overshadowed by its more cosmopolitan counterparts to the south: Sydney and Melbourne.
But now that Queensland’s capital has been confirmed as the host city for the 2032 Olympics, that could all change. Even though the Paris Games are only just behind us, the city is already busy making itself look glamorous.
A new entertainment and lifestyle precinct called Queen’s Wharf aims to change that. After years of renovations, the star of the show, a complex called, well, The Star, is set to open on August 29, according to Tourism and Events Queensland.
The complex houses a five-star hotel, several restaurants, a casino and a Sky Deck that towers 100 metres above the city. The viewing platform with spectacular views of Queen’s Wharf and the Brisbane River is open to the public 24 hours a day.
It is hoped that once the new 40,000 square metre area is fully open, it will attract an additional 1.4 million visitors a year. As well as a number of new hotels and restaurants, Queen’s Wharf will also offer a range of entertainment and shopping opportunities.
