CHICAGO — The Fourth of July was a 24-hour chaos in Chicago, with at least eight people killed and more than 40 injured in separate shootings.
One of the incidents is the shooting of eight people in the Little Italy neighborhood.
Police were called to the 1300 block of West Hastings just after midnight for reports of multiple people shot.
According to witnesses, a shooting took place between two people.

Eight people were hit, ranging in age from 74 to 18. All are expected to survive.
A 16-year-old was injured in a separate shooting in the 1200 block of South Central Park around 1:40 a.m.
According to police, officers found the teenager with a gunshot wound to the head at an apartment complex.
She was taken to hospital in critical condition.

In addition, a 43-year-old man was found shot to death in the 1200 block of West Washburne around 2 a.m. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Before midnight, a 59-year-old woman, a woman in her 40s and a 29-year-old woman were outside in the 900 block of North LeClaire when someone started shooting. The 59-year-old woman was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said. The 29-year-old was shot in the torso and is in fair condition. The woman in her 40s was shot in the head and hip and is in critical condition.
And early on the morning of July 4, two women and a child were killed in a shooting in Chicago’s Grand Crossing neighborhood. Nakeeshia Strong, 46, and her niece, Caprice Edwards, 24, and an 8-year-old boy were killed when a group of people shot at a home in the 7100 block of South Woodlawn Avenue.
A 5-year-old and a 7-year-old are still in critical condition.
According to family members, Edwards died while shielding her 1-year-old child from the shooting.
