Air traffic at Germany’s Frankfurt Airport has been temporarily halted after activists from the climate group Last Generation managed to gain access to the airport grounds, police confirmed on Thursday morning.

According to a dpa reporter on the scene, several demonstrators broke through a fence in the early morning and clung to the apron of Germany’s largest airport.

“All security services are currently working to resolve the disruptions as quickly as possible,” said a spokesperson for the federal police at the airport.

In a post on X, Last Generation called for an end to the use of fossil fuels by 2030.

“The continued extraction and burning of oil, gas and coal poses a threat to our existence,” the group said.

The action comes after activists from the Last Generation clung to the apron of Germany’s Cologne/Bonn airport on Wednesday, briefly disrupting air traffic.
