French industrial gases company Air Liquide has commissioned a new Air Separation Unit (ASU) in India.
The company supplies the healthcare sector, especially hospitals, and industrial traders, and has a daily production capacity of more than 300 tons of liquid oxygen and medical oxygen, 45 tons of liquid nitrogen and 12 tons of liquid argon.
The liquefied gases plant, located in the city of Kosi, is now reportedly the largest in the state of Uttar Pradesh, serving customers across the state as well as elsewhere in northern India such as Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
In line with Air Liquide’s sustainability objectives, the company aims to operate entirely on renewable energy by 2030.
The ASU was first announced in January 2022 and represents an investment of approximately INR350 crores ($41.9 million).
Pascal Vinet, executive vice president at Air Liquide, said at the time: “The construction of a new plant in Uttar Pradesh is a very important milestone for Air Liquide in India.
“This new, significant investment gives us the opportunity to better serve our customers, while also investing in the long-term growth opportunities of this important state. It also demonstrates our confidence in the continued growth of the Indian industry. This investment is in line with Air Liquide’s sustainability objectives, as this ASU should ultimately run exclusively on renewable energy.”
This news is in line with Air Liquide’s recent investment trend in the Asian region. In March announced a new $20 million hydrogen center in Tianjin, ChinaIn the same month it announced plans to ammonia and hydrogen infrastructure in Singapore.
