More than 2,000 police officers are on duty in Berlin on Monday as the German capital hosts a number of events to mark the first anniversary of the October 7 attacks on Israel.

After an early evening service at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in the western district of Charlottenburg, more than a thousand demonstrators are expected on a silent march to a nearby Jewish community center.

Another 1,000 participants are registered to attend a vigil in the central Mitte district.

Pro-Palestinian rallies will also be held in the southern Kreuzberg district and at Potsdamer Platz.

A march on Sunday titled “Demo against Genocide in Gaza” was halted by police after some of the 3,500 participants clashed with officers.
