Pernod Ricard has launched a new spirit that combines its Chivas Regal blended Scotch whiskey with a Japanese sake from the Masuizumi sake brewery.

The 12 year old Chivas Regal Takumi Reserve has been launched exclusively in Asia, specifically Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines and Cambodia.

Just drinks has asked the manufacturer of Absolut Vodka to confirm the price of the product, as well as in which outlets it is sold.

Pernod Ricard previously collaborated with Japanese sake producer Masuizimi in 2018 when it launched Link 8888, a premium sake aged in ex-Chivas Regal American oak barrels.

Sandy Hyslop, director of blending at Chivas, said: “Chivas Regal Takumi Reserve represents new territory for Chivas, pushing the boundaries of craftsmanship to deliver a coveted spirit that combines the rich heritage of Scotch whiskey with its diverse, internationally inspired flavor palette. . found in premium sake.

“Chivas Regal Takumi Reserve is more than a spirit; it is a symbol of the power of collaboration and shared values, inviting enthusiasts to experience the magic that comes from the unity of tradition and innovation.”

The Jameson whiskey maker recently said it sees its Asian markets as having the greatest potential for long-term growth of its direct-to-consumer (D2C) business unit.

Noting the demand for higher-priced spirits in the region, Nicolas Oudinot, the CEO of the group’s D2C division, said: “Asia is likely to be the biggest growth driver in the coming years.”

Pernod’s D2C unit includes two e-commerce assets: Bodeboca and The Whiskey Exchange. Oudinot noted that the division’s growth would come mainly from the latter.

In Asia, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan and South Korea are the UK-based online spirits retailer’s key markets.

Oudinot said The Whiskey Exchange plans to serve China in the future, but noted that it is difficult to determine whether this would be “done directly, or whether we serve Chinese (customers) elsewhere in the world,” such as in London or in other major cities in the world. Asia.

In his annual figures for 2024, Pernod’s Asian rest of the global market posted 3% organic growth and reported a 4% full-year sales decline to €5 billion, pressured by the 10% sales decline in China.

Commenting on the results at the time, CEO Alexandre Ricard noted that consumer spending in the country was “quite weak,” and that the group expected the regions to “probably follow the same trends as this past fiscal year.”
