BERLIN (AP) — Police have arrested a 32-year-old woman after six people were wounded in a knife attack on a bus en route to a festival in western Germany. Authorities said Saturday there was no evidence of a political or religious motive.

Three of the people attacked are in mortal danger, police reported Friday evening.

The knife attack took place in Siegen, east of Cologne. The bus was en route to a local festival in the city and was carrying at least another 40 people when the attack took place at around 7:40 p.m.

Police and prosecutors said the six wounded were between 16 and 30 years old and all from the region. By Saturday morning, three of them had left the hospital after outpatient treatment.

Local authorities planned to allow the festival to go ahead.

The stabbing in Siegen took place a week after a knife attack in Solingena city in the same state of North Rhine-Westphalia, in which a suspected Islamic extremist from Syria who managed to avoid deportation is accused of killing three people and wounding eight others.

The attack in Solingen prompted the governing coalition to draw up plans to tighten knife legislation and make deportations easier.

According to police, the woman arrested in Siegen was a German citizen and had no immigrant background.
