MEXICO CITY (AP) — A landslide triggered by heavy rains has killed six people near Mexico City, authorities said.

The landslide Monday night in Naucalpan, a community northwest of Mexico City, also hit a home and a school, the Mexican state government said in a statement. The victims were four men and two women. Another three people were injured and taken to a state hospital.

Governor Delfina Gómez ordered the deployment of rescue teams and security forces to support the affected families.

The deaths in Naucalpan came days after another landslide on Saturday killed nine people in Jilotzingo, west of Mexico City in Mexico State. A 3-month-old baby was among the victims. Two children, aged 10 and 12, and a 34-year-old woman were rescued. Several homes were hit and authorities had to evacuate more than 100 people amid fears of further landslides.

The state of Mexico has been hit by landslides and heavy rainfall since the start of the rainy season in late July.

In cities like Chalco which have also experienced heavy downpours, the combination of uncontrolled growth and failing infrastructure has caused sewage to flood into streets, homes and businesses.
