About 1.2 million people in Lebanon have been displaced by Israel’s massive aerial bombardment, according to the government in Beirut.
About 160,000 people have found shelter in emergency shelters, according to the head of the government’s emergency response committee, Nasser Yassin.
The others fled to friends or relatives, or moved to hotels or their own homes in other areas, state news agency NNA reported.
Nearly 300,000 people have crossed the border into civil war-torn Syria since Israel began its phase of intense attacks on targets of the Shiite militia Hezbollah last week, according to government reports.
Hezbollah has been firing rockets into Israel every day for months. The Israeli goal is to drive the militia back from the border so that about 60,000 Israelis evacuated from the northern area can return home.
